SIR ROBIN KNOX-JOHNSTON
Solo ocean racing is more about human endeavour than it is about the sailing. Its about spirit and extreme challenge, pushing oneself to the absolute limits and then a bit more still. There are a number of people who have inspired me, for all kinds of different reasons, but I guess my ultimate sailing hero is Sir Robin Knox Johnson. Sir Robin is an extraordinary man, a real maverick and adventurer, who was the first man ever to sail single-handed, non-stop around the world. His tireless enthusiasm is a real example to us all and I hope I have half his energy at 67!
